Free beaded fish keychain pattern made with pony beads showing bead placement and weaving design

Fish lovers and fishing fans can reel in a fun little project with this beaded fish keychain made with pony beads and cord. The simple fish shape is easy to personalize with your favorite combination of colors, so no two fish have to look alike. It's a fun craft for fishermen, anglers, fishing enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys fish or aquatic themes.

Attach the finished fish to a key ring, backpack, tackle bag or zipper pull, or make one as a handmade gift for your favorite fisherman or fish lover. This pony bead fish also makes a great summer camp, classroom or group craft, can be made in school colors for a fish mascot, or made in quantity for fundraisers.

If you make this project please share your photos with us. If we use them on our website or on Facebook you will get 10% off of your next order over $25!

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

Connect your cord to your keyring with a Lark's Head knot.
1. Find the half way point of the cord or wire you are using and double knot it onto the keyring. You can also use a lark's head knot (shown in photo).

2. Begin weaving the beads onto the cord following the pattern at the top of the page. You can click on the image for a larger, better resolution photo.

3. After finishing the pattern tie a double knot in the cords at the bottom and apply tacky glue to secure.

4. Three or four beads can be strung onto the end of each cord as a finishing touch (This is optional and not included in the bead count in your material list.)

5. Weave your wire or pipe cleaner through your beaded fish keychain to make it stiffer and hold it's shape.

(Seed beads or E beads can be used in place of pony beads to create smaller characters.)
